I love a recipe that looks like you put a lot of effort into it, but it’s actually deceptively easy. This french apple tart is one of them! A perfect alternative to a traditional apple pie for the holidays. I like to serve this with either salted caramel sauce, ice cream, whipped cream, or all of the above (my favorite option).

  • Start by preparing your crust. In a food processor or blender, add in flour, salt, and sugar and pulse 10 times. Cut your butter into small cubes and add to flour, pulse another 10 times. Slowly add in your ice water (or in little batches if working with a blender) and pulse until crust just comes together. It should be in large, pea sized crumbles.
  • Using a tea towel, empty dough into the center. Bring the edges of the towel together and twist to make a small ball of dough. Remove from the tea towel and place on a lightly floured work surface. Roll out crust to about 1/4 inch thick (about 10-12 inches across), and place on a 9 inch tart pan. Gently press into pan and remove excess crust. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425. Thinly slice your apples, keeping the slices together and set aside. Once crust is ready, remove from freezer and place your apples on the crust, skin side up. Alternate the types of apples as you arrange them in the pan. Top with butter and sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  • Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown. Let cool for at least 5 minutes. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or caramel sauce!
